Securing the Cloud
The issues of Cloud Security
Because cloud developments use the Internet to provide products and services, storing data in the cloud can be risky. A study by digital communications agency @www reveals that whenever possible, 61% of web users use the same password for all their online accounts. The very same survey also found that more than 1 in 10 users have over 50 online accounts to log into, leading many to experience password fatigue; hence using the same password across all accounts. If one account is compromised then expect the others to become compromised too.
User Authentication to ensure Cloud Security
To fight online fraud and enhance the security of digital transactions, many influential organisations such as UK Payments Administration (formerly APACS) and The Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) in the United States promote the use a two-factor user authentication process.
Two-factor authentication is a system where two different factors are used in parallel to verify the identity of a person requesting access an organisation's data. One factor is a login/password pair, the other factor can be a hardware token (authentication token). The two factors are therefore what the user knows and what the user has.
Two-factor authentication is the process of a user logging in to a system by proving their identity with two of the three methods:
? Something you know - password or PIN
? Something you have - smartcard or token
? Something you are - fingerprint or iris scan
Lab Lateral is a reseller of the application authentication software, Mobilegov, which has developed a patented technology, the Digital DNA, to uniquely identity at a base hardware level any digital technology attached to a system.
